Did You Know Today Is Girl’s Day?

Are you celebrating “Girl’s Day” today? Or, are you like I was, totally oblivious to the fact that “Girl’s Day” was even marked on your calendar?

A few moments ago I glanced at my calendar and noticed it was “Girl’s Day” today. “Girl’s Day,” I thought. “What and who and how did this come to be?” So being the curious soul that I am, I did what all of us curious souls do, I searched the Internet, and here is what I found.

On March 3rd there is a special celebration in Japan called hina (doll) matsuri (festival). It is also known as Girl’s Festival. The overall idea of Hina-matsuri is for parents to wish their daughters a future filled with health, happiness, and prosperity. Japanese parents give a set of dolls called “Hina-Ningyo” to their baby at her first Hina-matsuri, hoping that she will grow up happy, healthy and beautiful. Then they carry on this tradition year after year, and the color pink symbolizes the day.

So what do you think, wouldn’t it be wonderful to have our own “Girl’s Day” Celebration? Now, gentlemen, please read on. I think you might have an opinion on what I am about to suggest.

But before I elaborate on my suggestion to start our own Girl’s Day here in America, I would like to share something from my heart. I love my girls and want the best for them and their future.

My concern and heartache comes from the interactions that occur regularly between boys and girls today. Time and time again, I have heard and seen boys and girls interact in ways that are degrading to both sexes. Even the best behaved kids from families of strong faith and moral values often talk crude and vulgar to each other when think that no adults are listening. Just the other day I over heard one fourteen year old boy say to a couple of girls, “Yeah, go get a boob job, and I will be all over you like a fat boy on fudge.”

I have observed how much respect for the virtuous woman has declined in the past few decades. I believe that, if we don’t start spending more time emphasizing the beauty, gifts and virtues of the feminine and masculine, the type of behavior manifested by many of our youth of today, will not only continue but also will worsen.

I am the type of person that when a serious issue needs to be addressed I like to find a fun way to approach it. And, what better way than to have fun celebrating our feminine and queenly virtues than a “Girl’s Day?”

A day when we get dressed up in our best, have a nice lunch using china and crystal, and where our conversations are centered on virtues that make us women of divinity.

Divinity or Divine: relating to God, gods, or goddesses: connected with, coming from, or caused by God or a god or goddess.” Encarta ® World English Dictionary © & (P) 1998-2004 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

Virtues like:

Chastity: the moral quality of being chaste. Saving ones-self for marriage.

Grace:elegance, beauty, and smoothness of form or movement.

Modesty: reserve about nudity or sexual matters, especially a preference for clothes that keep much of the body covered.

Respect: for self and others: show consideration or thoughtfulness in relation to somebody or something.

I believe that if we teach our young women to love and respect their gender differences, we can show them the rewards of being women of grace, choosing to be chaste and modest in dress and character.

And if we could teach our young men to hold their tongues, and not swear or use crude and vulgar language in front of ladies; if we could start teaching them to do simple acts like opening doors for women; and if we ourselves can slow down enough to reflect on our own desire to be treated like queens, we will be able to unlock the pure, divine, feminine aspect of ourselves. When this happens we will start acting differently and then, we will be treated differently. And when this happens, we can bring back real and satisfying romance and marriages that will last.

Now I know many are thinking, she’s crazy, and that it will take more than opening a few doors, and you’re right about that. What I am saying is that it boils down to this:

“When we tap into our true feminine and masculine natures the way God created us to be, our actions, thoughts and choices will change in every area of our life. And it is through these little changes that a much needed relationship revolution will be started. We can bring back unity and families that stay together—one thought, one word, one action, one divine interaction at time.”—Becca Levie
