Life On Purpose # 85: Green Goop

The door bell rang, my daughter and I looked at are green faces covered with mineral clay. We were both dressed in our house robes and our heads were adorned with big pink rollers.

“Mom, hide.” My fourteen year old daughter said panicked. “Maybe they’ll go away.”

Not expecting any company, we had been hanging out doing the girl thing. Hesitantly I headed towards the door.

“Mom what are you doing, you can’t answer the door like that.”

I have to admit I didn’t really want to open the door, I knew that I looked like a green masked alien from another planet. I felt a warm red flush underneath the cool green mask as I took a big deep breath and said to myself:

“Well, you’re always saying it’s who you are on the inside that counts. Plus here’s your chance to step out of your comfort zone and practice what you preach.”

So instead of ignoring the door bell, I took another deep breath, pulled my robe a little tighter around my waste and swung open the door with a big white smile and long chin hairs peaking out of thick layers of green goop.

I don’t know who was more surprised when I opened the door, our unexpected guests who looked like they were wondering if maybe they should have called first, my daughter who was hiding around the corner, or my heart because it didn’t have a coronary caused by my fear of what other people think and embarrassment overload.

Once the momentary shock had passed they came in. It was my niece and her fiancé coming over to show us her ring and share the good news. I am so glad that I didn’t let green goop and my fears keep me from sharing such a special moment. (Of course her fiancé may be having second thoughts about the kind of family he’s marrying into.)

If we want to find and live our life purpose we need to always be ready and willing to open the doors that will be placed before us. When we hear the knock at the door we need to open it whether we think we’re ready, green goop, curlers and all.

Today’s Life on Purpose Quotes:

”Miracles come in moments. Be ready and willing.”—Wayne Dyer
“The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live.”—Flora Whittemore
“Nothing is impossible to a willing heart.”—John Keywood

I guarantee that if you ask with a sincere heart to be used to bless this planet and the people on it your request will be heard and granted. Just remember asking is only the first part the second is being ready and willing.

Today’s Life on Purpose Affirmation:

“I am ready and willing to receive all that I need to be able to live my Life on Purpose.”

Today’s Life on Purpose Challenge:

Write down the last time you could have done or tried something or gone somewhere but didn’t because of “green goop” fears.

Next write down if there is something you would like to do, or somewhere you would like to go or something you would like to learn now.

Now repeat today’s affirmation.

“I am ready and willing to do and receive all that I need to be able to live my Life on Purpose.”

Now re-read today’s quotes and then take some action toward what you need to do.

Hi Becca! Great story, and I fully agree that we can’t let anything get in the way of achieving what we really want from life. And there always seems to be SOMETHING getting in the way!

I wanted to share my Green Goop story - my Godmother made the best “Green Goop” dessert just for me. Sometimes, she would make me my very own bowl of it, just so my siblings couldn’t eat it all up before I got to it. It was made with pistachio pudding, marshmallows, and a bunch of other yummy stuff. I dubbed it “Green Goop” although it probably had a much fancier name. I’m sure I used to have it all over my face, too - just like you and your daughter had YOUR green goop all over yours!

Thanks for sharing your story, and congrats to your niece!
