The Hitchhikers Sign

Driving one day I noticed three hitchhikers, each one held a cardboard sign. One sign read “Las Vegas,” one read “San Diego,” and one read “Anywhere.”

The first two hitchhikers had a plan and a destination in mind. They knew where they were going. The third had no goal and no plan.

It reminded me of the time when Alice in Wonderland came to a fork in the road. She was confused as to which way to go. The Cheshire Cat seeing the confused Alice spoke to her and asked:

“Little girl, are you lost?”

“Well, I just want to know which way I should go,” Alice said.

“Well, that depends on where you are going.” Grinned the Cheshire Cat.

“I don’t know.” she said.

And to that the Cheshire Cat answered profound words of truth.

“Well, if you don’t know where you’re going then any road will do.”

Knowing where we want to go is so important. I know I want to return to my father in heaven. I know I want to make a difference in the lives of others. I know I want to have a successful business. Because I know these things I can take actions every day that support these desires.

Today’s Life on Purpose Challenge:

Ask yourself these three questions:

Where are you going?

Where do you want to go?

What actions are you taking daily that will ensure that you will get where you want to go?
