Why are you waiting? Sitting on your dreams? Why do you do that? Are you afraid? Have you risked before and failed? Then why, why do you hold back when you know you have dreams and desires in your heart and not go after them?
These are questions that pour through my mind many nights as I lay in bed and try to fall asleep. Chances are though; these are questions you have asked yourself before. So few people live in what I call the one percent. Sadly, only one percent of the people I know are truly going after their dreams. Many just settle for what’s decent or good enough. “The good is the enemy of the best.”
What’s good for you, is the BIGGEST enemy of what’s BEST for you.
My friend Josh Sundquist moved to Colorado after college to train to ski in the Olympics. He’s living in the one percent. By the way, he’s only got one leg, what’s your excuse? My friends Ben and Jessica Van Meter are leaving everything behind to move to a foreign country to teach English. Why? Because it’s their dream to do it, they are living in the one percent. Abraham Lincoln failed in business, was defeated for state legislator. He tried another business. It failed. His fiancée died. He had a nervous breakdown. He ran for congress and was defeated. He tried again and was defeated again. He tried running for the Senate and he lost. The next year he ran for Vice President and lost. Then he ran for the Senate again and was defeated. You know the rest of the story. He lived in the one percent, even though it was hard.
I’m not going to try to offer you some sort of three-step program for living in the one percent and following your dreams. The only thing I can say is JUST DO IT. Just make the decision and make it happen, one step at a time. Don’t settle. Please don’t settle. The world is counting on you.”-Josh Shipp
