I Wouldn’t! I Couldn’t!

I wouldn’t harm a fly, or at least that’s what I thought. I have always been so tender hearted and soft. My kids tease me, because when I yell I smile; and of course when I do this, something gets lost in the translation.

I do however remember a time, a moment, when I was overcome with… well, I’m not rightly sure. It was about 15 years ago, when I was an avid crafter. I had a craft room up in the attic where I would spend hours happily gluing away, getting ready for the local craft fairs.

I shared my room with huge black flies that I swear were gearing up for war. These flies were gigantic, enormous, dive bombers, and they had picked me for their target. Hour after hour, day after day, I was under constant attack; nothing I did got rid of them.

But then it happened; a moment I will never forget. One of them landed on the sewing table right next to me, and it just sat there just daring me. That’s when a new use for the glue gun flashed through my mind. It was as clear as a YouTube video. So I did it. I glued that dive bomber right to the table. For a brief moment I was the glue gun queen.

Then, standing, I turned and pointed my glue gun towards the other flies in the room daring them to take me on. fly-who-met-its-match.JPG

Now this happened a good fifteen years ago, yet I still remember those brief few moments in which I was pushed to my limit. As I said earlier, I’m a gentle soul. After having been abused as a child in every conceivable way, the last thing I want to do is cause anyone or any living thing pain.

But, hey, I am only human; I make mistakes. Sometimes I go ahead and do things knowing full well they are not actions that I really want to take; yet, I go ahead and do them anyway. Even more often than that I make mistakes and hurt people without even realizing it. We all do things intentionally or unintentionally.

So if we’re all human and nobody is perfect, how can we make the most out of our weaknesses? Two words can make all the difference in our lives and in the lives of others. Putting two words into action in our daily lives can make all the difference between a life of peace and calm verses a life of stress and pain.

These two power words are “understanding” and “forgiveness.”
