Go ahead call me a wimp if you want to because I am afraid of the dark. Thank heaven’s Thomas Edison never gave up until he figured out how to make the light bulb produce a reliable, long-lasting source of light.
For Mr. Edison figuring out how to make electricity practical and usable was no easy task. It took him over a year and a half of day in and day out experimenting before he succeeded.
Of course others questioned his persistence and abilities. When people asked him why he kept trying when to other people it looked like he was failing this is what he said:
“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”
How many times do we try before we give up? Five, ten, 1000, even 10,000 times?
I have been thinking a lot lately about often we do give up as people. We get all excited about something that we feel sure is what we’re supposed to be doing. Then when things start to get hard most of us quit.
Often we feel like we’ve made a mistake and begin to think maybe it wasn’t really inspiration. After all if it was inspiration things would be going better than this. What do you think Thomas Edison’s counsel to us would be?

Thomas Edison was a poor student. When a schoolmaster called him “addled,” his furious mother took him out of the school and proceeded to teach him at home.
