What’s red, velvety and delicious? Well that’s what I discovered for myself forkful after forkful after forkful last night, until I had actually eaten half a cake. I have a friend, and it was her birthday today. Red velvet is her favorite kind of cake, and I thought it might be nice to make one for her birthday. So with the help of a box I made one; well, actually two.

Lately I have been so in the mood for cake. The cravings all started with a dream I had a few weeks ago. In my dream I found myself in a most extraordinary bakery lined with row after row of gleaming glass cases. Inside of each of these cases were dozens of cakes of varieties I never new existed. Each cake was at least six inches tall. They were filled with creams and puddings of all kinds and then topped with thick…thick…did I say thick?.. rich creamy whipped cream.

When I asked for a slice, I was given a portion the size of my 9 x 13 cake pan; and oh, when I took a bite, the cake it melted in my mouth. It was incredible! I had never seen or tasted such exquisite fare before. But like so many good dreams, I woke up. And ever since that dreamy night I have had cake, cake, cake and more cake on my mind. So it’s only natural I would end up eating almost a whole cake all by myself.

Have you ever eaten a whole cake one bite at a time? It’s easier to do than one might think. And that’s why we don’t make many cakes at our house.

Ah, but there is an analogy here. Every day we are faced with problems and projects that often seem to loom over our heads like the good year blimp. The good new is, most of these challenges can be nibbled away at and conquered just like I managed to eat the cake, one little scrumptious bite at a time.

So what problem or project do you want to conquer? Are you willing to pick something to nibble away at? Why not choose something that is really bothering you? Because whatever it is, I guarantee you it is stealing energy and joy you don’t have to spare.

Next, take a quick minute and write down what you want to accomplish. Then list what actions you need to take to make this happen. Now start taking one little action towards it every day. Even if it’s a book shelf and you only straighten one book a day, do it. It’s worth it. It adds up. So happy nibbling, and please hold the applause. I was more than willing to sacrifice my waistline for this object lesson.
