Every time someone looks at my life and asks me, “How do you do it all?” I tell them I don’t! I do a little bit of a lot. Everyday I ask to be guided so I can discern between what’s important to accomplish today and what’s not.
That means some days I am busy doing something other than cleaning my house, and believe me on those days it shows. But that’s okay because when I die and watch the rerun of my life, I am quite sure that spotless floors and a clean desk aren’t what I came to earth for. Not when there are so many people in need, talents to develop, wonders of the world to see, good books to read, dreams to live… children to hug and chocolate to eat.
Yet with so many good choices, so many daily needs to attend to, and so many demands put on our time, how do you choose? Choose is the keyword here, because no one can do it all. And if they’re trying to do it all they are more than likely teetering on the edge of insanity.
Or if you were to ask the calm, cool collected one, she will probably tell you she has have a housekeeper, lawn care service, nanny and personal assistant or she’s plotting someone’s death.
Let me repeat - no one can do it all. So let’s quit driving ourselves crazy and wasting time trying to. Let’s start spending our time doing that which is on purpose and brings meaning into our lives.
So the question is how do we know what’s important? The answer to that is one of the great lessons of life. How do we learn to distinguish between what’s important and what’s not?
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
In others words, show me what’s important to do today and what’s not. Isn’t it nice to know that we don’t have to figure out everything alone? There is a still small voice that we all can tap into that suggests to us the best things to do and the best places to be on any given day.
Learning to trust this whisper can be challenging at first because the voice in our head SCREAMS SO MUCH LOUDER “You have to do it all,’ ‘everything is important,’ ‘you promised,’ ‘your mother managed’ I could go on but I won’t. I am sure by now the voice in your head has taken over where I left off.
We can ignore this voice and choose to listen to a wiser voice. Albert Einstein put it beautifully when he said:
“I want to know God’s thoughts; the rest are details.”
Today start repeating the Life on Purpose quote found in the green box at the top of this page.
Then start asking for daily guidance. Today is the day to take control of your life by giving up control.

Becca, Are you really sharing your brownie recipe? If so, can I have the recipe? Thanks… I needed to read your daily blog today and the Surrender and Win thought. Thanks for your inspiration to me.
