Kids really get it. They make friends instantly.
My husband and I had gone to a favorite buffet. (Eating is definitely one of my passions.) I grabbed a plate and headed to the salad bar.
As I picked up the salad tongs and dipped them into the bowl I felt a clank. The next thing I knew I was in a tong war, metal against metal…so I am a little dramatic and it only lasted a few seconds.
I was smiling and thinking how wonderful it was that a complete stranger wasn’t afraid to play a little bit. Ahh but I thought to soon.
All of a sudden my mystery opponent with drew their tongs. In seconds there was a man at my side blushing with embarrassment.
“Oh I am so so sorry. I thought it was my wife on the other end of the tongs. You must think me a nut.”
“On the contrary” I said….( I paraphrased this a little since I can’t remember exactly our words.)
” I was so enjoying the spontaneous of the moment. It made my day!”
I have thought a lot about this experience and how we as adults forget how to play and make new friends in an instant.
I hope that from this moment on we will make it a daily goal to relax more to reach out in fun and friendship every day.
We are only officially young once, but we can choose to love, live & play like a child forever! Here’s to instant friendships. -Becca Levie
