Her long red thick curls were flying; the room was alive with the most glorious music. Jenny’s gift for playing the violin was at work again, and as she finished her masterpiece the room exploded with thunderous applause and a standing ovation.

Have you been to a concert or watched a really great performance lately? Have you been so moved by someone whose energy and passion for what they do is so marvelous, that after you’ve finished clapping, you have to stop and look heavenward and ask God what they did to deserve all that talent? And by the way, where is yours?

If so don’t worry, you’re not alone and rest-assured that these feelings will soon pass as you discover your own gifts, talents and life purpose. The truth is there is a “Jenny” trapped in all of us.

To me the most powerful and influential people are the ones who are on fire with life like Jenny. They are the most enjoyable people to be around. They are full of life, creativity, and they live the rich, abundant life we all seek.

What do the “Jenny’s” of the world know that others don’t? They know who they are and why they’re here. They have connected with their life purpose. But wait; the good news is that we all have a life purpose. We are all here on this planet at this time to live our life purpose. It’s just a matter of figuring out what it is.

So, how do we figure out why we’re here and what our purpose is so we can get on with it? One of the most powerful ways to start connecting with who we are and what our life purpose is through defining and using the right “keywords” when we are thinking and speaking.

What is the definition for “keyword?”

Keyword also key word: “A word that serves as a key to a code. A significant or descriptive word.”

As we see by its very definition, a keyword serves as a key to a code. And isn’t that what we’re trying to do; break the code of why we’re here and what our significant life purpose is? We have long been taught that the very words we speak carry the power to create. Knowing this, we need to choose our “key” words with care, only using words that will bring about the results we desire.

Now that we can start to see the importance of keywords, how and where should we use keywords? We use keywords in every thought we think and in every sentence we speak. And since the thoughts we have and words we speak are responsible for who we are, what we become and what we get out of this life and the next life, finding the right keywords is absolutely necessary for us to live our life on purpose.

What kind of keywords are winning “keywords”?

Use words and thoughts that communicate to our hearts and minds that we’re born for greatness, that we’re special and that we can make a difference.

Norman Vincent Peale said:

“Never talk defeat. Use words like hope, belief, faith, victory.”

Keywords can make or break our efforts for living a life on purpose. Keywords can easily make the difference between a happy abundant life and one that is filled with stress and that leaves us always asking why, and what’s the use of even living. It doesn’t take long to see the significance of finding and using keywords that will help us live a purpose driven life.

Henry Van Dyke (1852–1933), an American author, educator, clergyman and a graduate of Princeton University had this to say about keywords:

“Many a treasure is unlocked with a verbal key.”-Henry Van Dyke

Dr. Laura Schlessinger said:

“Language is our way of communicating what we want and who we are. By using bad language, we diminish the divine spark within us that defines our humanity.”

Let’s commit to changing our negative self-talk and affirmations to positive self-talk and affirmations.

Here is a really powerful affirmation to say over and over again every time we call ourselves stupid, useless, hopeless or worthless:

“God made me to shine. He wants me to be happy, and He wants to bless me so I can bless the lives of others.”

Also print this next quote out and read it when you get up in the morning, during lunch and again before you go to bed. I use this quote often because it is so powerful. Reading positive keywords like this throughout the day, consistently, has proved to have a significant impact on our attitudes and actions.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that others won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory in God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”—Marianne Williamson

Discovering our purpose doesn’t happen overnight, and often we don’t even realize that we‘re making progress. In fact, it is like trying to watch grass grow; if we sat and tried to watch the grass grow, we would miss it. Yet even though we can’t see it growing, it soon becomes evident that it has because it’s time to mow it again.

When we set our intent to live our life on purpose and start doing things that will assist us like using “winning keywords,” we unlock the door to our potential. Let’s try not to measure our progress. Let’s just trust because as sure as the sun sets and the grass soon needs cutting, we too will awake to the treasures of a purpose driven life.
